A Power House Creatives Initiative

Everyone has a story – and all our stories have something in common… we all started from nothing and knew nothing. People want to hear stories. They want to hear OUR stories — they want to know who we are, where we are from, what we are doing, who and what we love, what we have learnt and where we are going. People also want us to hear their story! Being a part of the Steem network is an individual journey for every single one of us and through this initiative we will share our stories not only with all who are already here – hopefully inspiring, guiding and informing them… but doing the same for everyone else in the world too. Through our stories we will prick the curiosity of those who have not yet arrived and illuminate and widen the already open doors to our one in a million blockchain.

We invite and encourage each and every one of you to participate and share your stories too! You can find the "how to" details at the end of this post.

Where My Steem Journey Began
Precisely in November 2017, during one of our lecture-free hours while I was still studying for my first degree in the university, one of my colleagues (@utomobong) stood up and began telling us about steemit. Since I was in dire need of a work that won't interrupt my studies, I paid close attention to her while some were making jest of her.

I listened very carefully to every detail she pointed out and then decided to join. That was how I first came to the knowledge of steemit. I took so much interest in the platform and eventually created my account with some help and began posting.

As at then, SBD was over $6 and I had the impression that I would make so much money in less than no time. I believed that when I just made a post, that upvotes will just come in high weights but that did not turn out true. I did not know that there were lots of things to be done before getting those high upvotes I saw other people getting.

More so, I thought that my reputation would keep increasing and growing at the same speed and pace it started. Little did I know that, "the higher you go, the tougher it becomes."

This then leads to the challenges I faced as a newbie..

My Initial Challenges and How I Overcame Them
There will always be challenges in anything we embark upon in life so we should always expect it. Also, challenges are necessary for growth and good results. Steemit was no different; I faced series of challenges which included the following but I still possessed the right attitude towards this challenges and eventually overcame them.

No / Poor Upvotes
I was never so discouraged and somewhat upset whenever I submitted a post or posts and then received no good upvotes. As at then, number of views was always visible. This made the situation very painful in that you will see hundreds of views but no upvotes.

I did not know how to deal with that and at some points, I wanted to quit the platform. I was forced to ask those who invited me as to how I could receive upvotes. I was then told to engage and I actually did that.

That was how the breakthrough started coming. In the process, I came across @surpassinggoogle and @steemchurch. Both started noticing me and curating my blogs.

So, we see that the key is to engage, make new friends and join communities as well. The upvotes started coming also because of my consistency on the platform. Even without those upvotes, I never missed to make a post in a day. I was consistent because it is also key.

Post Creation
Another challenge I faced was the type of contents to create. I did not know what contents would make me relevant on the platform. I would be creating posts on almost every topics and category. I didn't have a niche and it is always necessary to have that.

However, upon joining the @steemchurch community, that issue was being attended to. I began to constantly make Christian related posts and that made me to be noticed.

What I see now is that it is pertinent that you make posts in areas you are more familiar with or area of study and passion. If you are an engineer by profession then you should be making engineering posts. You discover that you won't lack words and plagiarism will be far-fetched from you.

Choice of Tags
Knowledge of the right tags to use on each of my posts was also an issue to me. Many times I would use tags that were not relevant to the post. To solve this, I had to explore the tags section on the platform and that was how I got to learn the basics on the usage of tags.

The right tags help to improve the visibility of one's post. When you use the right tags, the right communities and interested persons will see it and eventually support.

My Steem Blockchain Knowledge
Before joining steemit, I had no knowledge of blockchain nor cryptocurrency. In fact I heard of the word blockchain upon joining steemit
Sometimes, I had overheard people mention bitcoin but I never really understood what it meant or represented.

However, upon joining steemit, I got to know about blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. Steemit gave me exposure in the aspect of blockchain and cryptocurrency. Now, I even lecture persons about blockchain and cryptocurrencies. More so, through steemit, I hold several cryptocurrencies. I very well understand the concept behind cryptocurrencies and trading them.

Comparing the knowledge I possess now about cryptocurrencies with when I never joined Steemit, the margin is quite large. Thanks to steemit.

My Steem Favourites
I have always loved writing and thanks to my English teacher who taught me to write constructively. Writing is something I can do any time and with passion.

Owing to this, I mostly publish written articles and not videos. I think I only made videos when @threespeak came in newly. I majorly blog on christianity and christian-related issues, educational and engineering. Also, I do some motivational and 'life' posts.

Because of this, the front-ends I mostly make use of are,, esteem, actifit, marlians, palnet, steemstem etc.

My Golden Nugget Advice
Success is possible on steemit but you have to pay the price. And what are these prices? There include engagement on the platform, consistency in posting original and quality contents. As a newcomer to this space, do not be thinking about money alone so as not to miss the fun on the platform.

Always make useful and quality comments on others post. That way you would draw attention to your blog. Follow those that post in your area of interest. Stay original and creative.

Be determined to be hardworking and committed to the platform.

My Steem Hood & its Peep
My first hood on steem is the SteemChurch (@steemchurch). I joined this community because it's vision and purpose aligns with my values and personality.

I am also in the @steemstem community and a member in their discord server as well. I joined them them because I am a Petroleum Engineer and there engineering posts are valued.

I am also a member in the StemNG, stach, steemgigs discord servers etc.

I follow quite a number of persons because of the kind of posts they make and a few of them include; @sirknight - this is the founder of the SteemChurch Community
@Darlenys01 - Steemchurch Leader
@uyobong @theycallmedan @mhizerbee @carlos84 @mobbs @lemouth @acidyo @jaynie @alexdory @surpassinggoogle @sunnylife @ejemai @nextgen @clixmoney @anomadsoul @emperorhassy @gentleshaid @samstickkz etc..

Lastly, I will call on the following friends to participate in this initiative and share their steem stories

  1. Create a post titled: “My Steem Story – By

  2. The first three tags in order are to be as follows:

  3. ONLY make use of the cover image provided in this post.

  4. Keep the same formatting and placement (intro, footer
    instructions etc.)

  5. Replace the personal photo with one of your own.

  6. Tag 5 people to join in on the initiative.

  7. Share your post to twitter.

  8. Share your twitter link and Steem post link in the comments of @jaynie’s “Steem Story” post.
